Paris Hilton Jailed: So much excitment over peronal tragedy
With the media scrambling to publish as many salacious attention getting articles as possible about Paris Hilton being jailed for 45 days for a violation of probation stemming from a drunk driving charge, it seems what is really going on is that the media is actually fueling the public’s dark desire to revel in celebrity tragedy!
How many different ways can the news community spew out the same information about Paris Hilton’s demise until the public is satisfied? My take on the situation is simple… If this was a non-celebrity court ruling would every news bureau be falling over themselves to capture pictures, quotes and sound bytes? I don’t think so. I do agree that the court has a responsibility to render a verdict for breaking the law, especially when the crime is a drinking & driving offense but that isn’t why the media is swarming over Paris Hilton. The media is fulfilling the public’s need to peer and pry into the lives of celebrities especially when it exposes a dark side or in this case, legal troubles.
The editor of this Blog posted an article from an AFP news feed regarding the court ruling for Paris Hilton’s probation violation, but in an after thought he regretted the post as in his words “we’re adding more crap on the growing heap!” In following the media’s attention of Paris Hilton it seems that there are a lot of blogs actually using this tragedy as a means to gain hits to their sites and pump up their click ad revenues. One site in particular is this over laden banner ad spam site! They use a catchy title to actually make you think that the article is about the media’s frenzy attack on Paris Hilton, but actually it is nothing more than an attempt to pull in visitors and get clicks to their banner ads, and sadly enough this writer has actually seen litterly hundreds of similar RSS posts plaguing the search engines with low content/high banner ad RSS spam!
This writer is in no way condoning Paris Hilton’s behavior, but rather is questioning the public’s need to see this sad event in Paris Hilton’s personal life, as if because she is a celebrity that the public is automatically entitled to every crumb of dirt they can possibly expose and report on. It seems that the public has enjoyed similar views of such public personalities; ex U.S. President Bill Clinton, David Hasselhoff. As i see it the media ought to be busting down every door in an attempt to corner some of the top U.S. politicians and ask them why they haven’t made an in-depth investigation as to why our gas prices are soaring, and furthermore what are they going to do about it! I think that would require more intestinal fortitude than the average media flunky could muster!
I do sincerely hope that Paris Hilton has learned a valuable lesson, and sadly my guess is that the media isn’t finished with you yet honey!
