Installing Yahoo Messenger in Ubuntu
There are many quality replacements for almost all of the Windows based software i use, and more that 99% of it is FREE! and you can’t beat Free!!!
The only application that i couldn’t find a replacement for was Yahoo Messenger. Due to the new Yahoo Chat room restrictions the only way to chat in Yahoo Chat is with Yahoo Messenger Well i downloaded the .deb for Yahoo Messenger and installed it with the GDebi Package Installer and i got a dependency error. So after searching on the Ubuntu Forums i found this install method.
In terminal type in the following ** Note you may copy and paste these commands in your terminal
apt-get install alien
sudo apt-get install libgdk-pixbuf2
Download the following - rh9.ymessenger-1.0.4-1.i386.rpm from here - http://messenger.yahoo.com/unix.php
sudo alien -c rh9.ymessenger-1.0.4-1.i386.rpm
`This converts the rpm into a valid .Deb package and includes all required dependencies`
After the conversion is is finished go to the folder location and right click on the new .Deb package and choose "Open with the GDebi Package Installer"
Follow the packager install directions and when finished type ymessenger in a terminal to start the Yahoo Messenger.
Enjoy!!!!

Hello:
Make sure that you have enabled the main, universe, restricted, and multiverse repositories in your software sources.
To so that click on System >> Administration >> Software Sources.. And then click on the Ubuntu Software tab.
Also you may want to add these repositories to your lists. Click on the Third Party Software tab and add these url’s:
http://download.tuxfamily.org/3v1deb
http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu
After you do that run this command in a terminal-
sudo apt-get update
then run -
sudo apt-get install libgdk-pixbuf2
That should do it!!
Good Luck…
Let me know how it works out.

If you have your windows setup cd, load it, restart the PC, boot off the CD and start the Recovery console. Here you can use the fixmbr command to commandeer your MBR.
